Methodology

Using our offshoring methodology we are able to maximize the benefits by optimizing offshore contribution. This methodology can be readily applied to deliver a range of software services through offshore model.

It is very important to identify the right project/ process for offshoring. Not every project or process is suitable for offshoring. Our methodology includes a feasibility and requirements study phase to help identify suitable projects/ processes and also define a roadmap.

1. Stage One - Offshore feasibility & requirements study:
Key objective:

To analyse the application and process portfolio for offshorability and develop a common understanding of benefits, risks and challenges of an offshoring initiative.

Approach:
  • Document current business situation and benefits sought
  • Inventory of key processes and applications
  • Evaluate offshorablity of applications and processes using statistical analysis based on:
    • Technology used
    • Skill availability
    • Onsite-work content
    • Mission Criticality
    • Complexity
    • Support/Helpdesk requirements
  • Identify applications and projects for off-shoring and prepare a roadmap
  • Develop a high level business case
  • Identify pilot project opportunities
For any offshoring initiative to succeed it is necessary to establish and optimize the working model. The engagement can be scaled up only after such a model is proven.

2. Stage Two - Pilot:
Key objective:

To analyse the application and process portfolio for offshorability and develop a common understanding of benefits, risks and challenges of an offshoring initiative.

Approach:
  • Define scope of work, project plan and staffing plan
  • Staff a core team
  • Establish a lifecycle model and shared processes between MIND and client
  • Setup project environment
  • Organize training and orientation for both onsite and offshore teams
  • Initiate knowledge transfer process
3. Stage Three - Steady state
Key objective:

To scale up the offshore outsourcing activities

Approach:
  • Establish dedicated offshore development centre with a core team.
  • Provide support and helpdesk services
  • Ramp up team as per project/process requirements
Distribution of activities

Offshoring requires distribution of activities between onsite/ near site and offshore locations. Maximising the offshore effort contribution increases the cost advantage. However, optimum ratio of onsite:offshore contribution has to be maintained to ensure quality, service levels and responsiveness.

The effort distribution varies across offshore and onsite for each stage of the project lifecycle. Team Structure:
